Brazilian Tradition takes root in the Desert!

Capoeira at BrasilFest AZ 2010
Mid-flight! Capoeira at Brasil Fest AZ 2010
The Third Annual Brasil Fest Arizona returns this year to include Brazilian performance troupes from across the state bringing the Brazilian vibes to the newly opened Monarch Theatre in downtown Phoenix.

Body-bending flips, kicks and traditional capoeira music will open the festivities as talented capoeiristas from Capoeira Brasil Arizona demonstrate their art. Batucaxe (Tucson) and Grupo Liberdade (Phoenix), Arizona's finest batucada bands
will perform the hypnotic sounds of Samba, Samba-Reggae, Côco, Ijexá, Axé and Maracatu on the main stage. Maculelê dancers will brandish sticks while performing the traditional Brazilian dance-fight. SambAZ, comprised of over 20 ornately costumed samba dancers, offer a visual feast as they skillfully radiate the passion, beauty and grace of authentic Brazilian culture.

The main stage will also feature Batucaxé and Grupo Liberdadé in an epic collaborative performance of maracatu with batucada groups joining together from across the state. Grupo Liberdade's director, Poranguí will then lead all the drum ensembles in a culminating performance of earth-shaking Samba Afro to leave your heart pounding with adrenaline in one of the most exhilarating nights of your life.

Throughout the night, Brasil Fest AZ patrons will receive free admission into Monarch's Upstairs "Fusion Friday" Event featuring Latin and Hip Hop electronic dance music to complement the live music experience.
